Certificate of sponsorship
This page explains the points we award for sponsorship under the international agreement category (Tier 5 Temporary Worker) of the points-based system to work in the UK.

The points awarded for sponsorship
You will score 30 points for your certificate of sponsorship.
International agreement certificates of sponsorship
The General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) or similar agreements between the UK of the European Union (EU)and another country or other countries
If you are applying under General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS), or a similar agreement between the UK or EU and another country or other countries, when assigning your certificate of sponsorship your sponsor guarantees that you:
- are a contractual service supplier who is employed by a company based outside the EU that has a contract to supply services to someone in the UK, as set out in the GATS or a similar trade agreement;
- have been an employee of the company for at least 12 months;
- have a degree or equivalent level qualification;
- have specific professional qualifications to provide services in the UK where required by relevant legislation, regulations or sectoral requirements; and
- have 3 years professional experience in the sector in which you are supplying services.
Employees of overseas governments and international organisations
If you are applying as an employee of an overseas government or international organisation, when assigning your certificate of sponsorship your sponsor guarantees:
- you will be under a contract of employment with the overseas government or international organisation;
- you will not do any job for the sponsor other than the one you got your certificate of sponsorship for;
- you will not change to a different category of worker in the international agreement category.
Private servants in diplomatic households
If you are applying to be a private servant in a diplomatic household or household of officials working for international organisations, when assigning your certificate of sponsorship your sponsor must guarantee that you:
- are 18 years old or over;
- a member of staff of a diplomatic or consular mission who has diplomatic privileges and immunity as defined by the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations; or
- an official employed by an international organisation with certain privileges and immunities under UK or international law;
- are planning to work full-time in domestic employment;
- will not do any other job for the sponsor other than as a private servant for a named household; and
- are going to leave the UK when your permission to stay has ended.
