Tier 1 (Investor)

Investment made within 3 months

This page explains the evidence you must provide of the timing of your investment if you want to extend your permission to stay in the UK as a Tier 1 Investor under the points-based system.

You must provide evidence that you invested at least £1,000,000 in the UK within 3 months (13 weeks) of your 'investor start date'. We will also accept investments made up to 12 months before that date.

However, no separate documents are needed to meet this requirement. We will refer to the portfolio you provide as evidence of your investment and when it was made. If the portfolio does not confirm that you made the investment within three months of your investor start date, you will not score any points and any remaining leave may be curtailed.

If your previous permission to stay was under the former Investor category, you do not need to meet this requirement - we will automatically award you the points for the investment having been made within 3 months.

Terms explained

  • Investor start date

If you were granted entry clearance as a Tier 1 Investor, your investor start date is the date when you entered the United Kingdom (if you can produce evidence of your date of entry) or the date when you were granted entry clearance (if you cannot produce evidence of your date of entry). If you were already in the United Kingdom when you became a Tier 1 Investor, your investor start date is the date when you were granted leave to remain as a Tier 1 Investor.
