Requirements for extension applications

This page describes the requirements that you must meet if you are currently in the UK under the Tier 1 (Graduate Entrepreneur) category of the points-based system, and you want to extend your permission to stay here.

Before you apply, you must read the Tier 1 (Graduate Entrepreneur) policy guidance, which you can find on the right side of this page. The policy guidance is based on Part 6A of the Immigration Rules.

The information on this page is for people who are already in the UK under the Tier 1 (Graduate Entrepreneur) category.

If you wish to extend your leave in this category you should make your application before your current permission to stay expires. We would recommend you apply at least 1 month before your leave runs out. You can only have previously been granted leave of 2 years in total as a Tier 1 (Graduate Entrepreneur) migrant.

You will need a letter of endorsement from a UK higher education institution or UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) in order to score some of these points before you can apply.

Scoring points

You will need 95 points to extend your stay under the Tier 1 (Graduate Entrepreneur) category. The table below shows how you can score points.

The endorsement is from the same institution as your initial application

The endorsement confirms the UK higher education institution or UKTI has assessed you and your business idea and can confirm that you have made satisfactory progress in developing your business since your leave was granted.

English Language: pass mark = 10
You do not need to provide further evidence as you must have satisfied the English language requirement in your initial application.

If you have a Global endorsement from UKTI you must provide the specified documents to show that you have a good knowledge of English.

Maintenance (pass mark = 10)
For leave to remain in the United Kingdom you must have the specified funds (expenses) requirement.		 10
