How long will my application take?

This page explains how quickly we aim to process your application for a Home Office travel document.

We will write to you to confirm that we have received your application.

You do not need to contact us to check the progress of your application. We will contact you as soon as a decision has been made or if we require further information. Our staff cannot provide any information about your application if you applied less than 70 working days ago.

Applications to replace lost documents can take much longer to process than normal applications. This is because we need to fully investigate the loss.

If you need a travel document urgently because of a medical emergency or a family funeral, you will need to send us your TD112 application form with evidence of this emergency, such as a recent original medical report, doctor's report or death certificate, see the How do I apply for Home Office travel document page for the TD112 application form and guidance.

Applications do not come directly to the travel documents section in Croydon. We suggest that any requests for priority are not sent to the travel documents section before 10 working days have passed. After that time please fax a copy of your evidence to us on 020 8196 0109.

If you do not send us evidence of an emergency, or if we decide that it is not appropriate to give you priority for the reasons you have given, your application will remain in the queue.

You must not make any arrangements to travel until you have received your travel document.
