How do I change or replace my travel document?
This page explains how you can change or replace your Home Office travel document if it is lost, stolen, expired or incorrect.
You will need to pay a fee with most applications to change or replace your document. See Cost of applying for the current fees.
To obtain a new travel document, you will need to complete application form TD112 in the same way as if you were applying for a document for the first time. You can download application form TD112 from the right side of this page.
See Applying for guidance on making your application.
When we require evidence to support your application, such as a police report or marriage certificate, this must be the original document, not a copy.
Lost or stolen travel document
If your travel document has been lost or stolen, you must notify your nearest police station. The police officer who takes your report will give you confirmation of the report, including a crime reference number.
If you have lost your travel document in the United Kingdom, you can apply for a replacement. You should complete the application form in full and send it to us with two photographs, the fee, the original police confirmation that you have reported the loss, and a full explanation of how it was lost. You will need to have section 8 of the form completed by a professional person, who must also confirm that the photographs are of you, as detailed in Completing the form.
Applications to replace lost documents can take much longer to process than normal applications. This is because we need to fully investigate the loss.
Expired or full travel document
If your Home Office travel document has expired or is full and you want to travel abroad, you must apply for a new travel document. You cannot extend your existing travel document.
If you are in the United Kingdom, you should complete application form TD112, and send it to us with two photographs, the fee, and your expired travel document. See Completing the form for more details.
If you are not currently in the United Kingdom, you should contact your nearest British embassy or high commission for advice. You can find the contact details for your nearest embassy or high commission on the Foreign and Commonwealth Office website.
Changing details on your travel document
If you wish to change your name on your travel document, you will need to apply for a new travel document.
You should complete application form TD112 and send it to us with two photographs, the fee, your existing travel document, and proof of your change of name (such as the original deed poll or marriage certificate).
Provided you send us your existing travel document, you will not need to ask a professional person to complete section 8 of the application form or sign your photograph. See Completing the form for more details.
If you want to correct an error in the details on your travel document, you should send us the incorrect travel document within 28 days from the date of issue, with evidence of the correct details, and a letter explaining what the error is. You will not have to pay a fee for your replacement travel document unless we find that the error was not our fault, in which case you will have to pay the full fee before we can issue a new document.
