This page contains information about documents that may help to support your application to come to the UK as a visiting examiner or assessor undertaking a permitted paid engagement.

You must provide a copy of your invitation from a higher education institution, arts or research organisation to examine UK students. Activities can include:

  • marking papers;
  • moderating marking;
  • attending exam boards;
  • drafting reports; and/or
  • attending clinical skills examinations or vivas; and/or
  • participating in or chairing a selection panel.

The invitation must show:

  • that you have been chosen to carry-out the activity because of your skills or expertise;
  • how the engagement links to the venue; and
  • how long the engagement is for.

You must provide evidence that the engagement relates to your expertise and/or qualifications, and full-time profession overseas. For example, you may wish to provide publications by you in your particular field of expertise or a letter from your employer confirming where you work and your area of expertise.
