Refusals and appeals
This page explains what you can do if we refuse to allow you to enter the UK as a family visitor. A family visitor is a type of 'general visitor'.
Applications to enter the UK
We will make a decision by carefully checking your visa application, immigration history and supporting documents, to see whether you meet the Immigration Rules. If our visa officer cannot make an immediate decision, they may need to interview you.
If we refuse your application, our entry clearance officer will send or give you a notice of refusal. This document will list the reasons for the refusal.
From 25 June 2013, if you do not meet the requirements as a visitor under paragraph 41 of the Immigration Rules, your application will not attract a full right of appeal if we refuse your application. You can find out more information in our Appeals application guide.
If the refusal relates to a family visit visa application made prior to 25 June 2013 you will receive a full right of appeal. You can find out more details about appeals and the appeals processes on your Appeals page.
If your application was refused with a limited right of appeal, you may re-apply at any time (unless the application was refused under general grounds which restricted your return to the UK). You must ensure that the reasons why your previous application was refused are fully addressed, either through written explanation and/or submitting additional documents.
