Citizens of Turkey

These pages explain how citizens of Turkey can apply to stay in the United Kingdom if they are or will be establishing in business, and the rights Turkish citizens have if they are already working here.

The European Community Association Agreement (ECAA) with Turkey allows citizens of Turkey the right to have their application to establish themselves in business in the United Kingdom considered under more favourable rules. A Turkish citizen who is legally here in another capacity may therefore apply to stay for this purpose.

A decision by the Association Council of the agreement also gives certain rights to citizens of Turkey who are already legally working in the United Kingdom.

These pages offer a brief guide to the rules. For more information, you should read the full In-country guidance on persons intending to establish themselves in business under Turkish-EC Association Agreement (PDF 106K opens in a new window).

If you are already legally in the United Kingdom and wish to transfer to the business category, or extend your stay in this category, see Staying in the United Kingdom as a Turkish citizen who will be establishing in business.

If you are already legally working in the United Kingdom, see Turkish citizens with permission to work in the United Kingdom.
