Conditions of your visa while in UK
This section explains the conditions of a child student visa while they are studying in the United Kingdom, including the conditions of their stay, changing course or approved education provider, working and under 12 year olds coming with a parent or legal guardian.
The conditions of your stay mean you cannot claim state benefits and may have to register with the police.
You are not allowed to apply to stay in the United Kingdom permanently (also known as settlement) after being in a student immigration category.
Children under 12 year olds are allowed to come to the United Kingdom with a parent or legal guardian.

Conditions of your stay
Whilst in the United Kingdom as a student you must meet the following:
- not claim any state benefits (known as public funds) that you are not entitled to;
- register with the police, if this is needed by paragraph 326 of the immigration rules.

Staying permanently
Any time you spend in the student category will not count towards the time needed to qualify for settlement here.
