13 June 2008
From 16 June 2008, both the main applicant and any dependants applying for an extension of stay (further leave to remain) in the United Kingdom using application forms for students FLR(S) and marriages FLR(M) will also need to complete the new section (7) of the application form which covers biometric immigration documents. Biometric immigration document is the legal term for identity cards for foreign nationals.
The requirement to complete this section of the two forms was introduced for the main applicant from 28 April 2008, and extends to dependants applying from 16 June 2008.
All dependants included in applications on forms FLR(S) and FLR(M) will need to provide their biometrics if they are making a postal application and live within a London postcode area or if they are applying in person at the Croydon public enquiry office. Full details of those who need to apply for a biometric immigration document and information on the application process can be found in the studying in the UK and the UK residency sections of this website.
If an applicant or dependant is aged under 16, the biometric registration process must only take place in the presence of an adult who is the child's parent, guardian or a person who takes responsibility for the child during that time. You must give us the name of this adult when you make your appointment and this must be the same person who is named in section A 7.1 of the application form.
We will not require biometrics for the main applicant or dependants for postal applications posted on or after 26 July. However, the requirement will continue for applications made at the Croydon public enquiry office until we start issuing identity cards to successful applicants from 25 November 2008.
