Chapter 1 - General provisions


The immigration directorate instructions are internal guidance used by staff when handling applications.

Section 7 (Public funds) and Section 18 (Knowledge of life in the UK) of this chapter have now been replaced by modernised guidance, in the 'Other cross-cutting information' section.

Section 6 (Biometrics) and Section 6A (Replacement identity card for foreign nationals) of this chapter have now been replaced by modernised guidance, in the 'Cross-cutting information: Identity checks' section.

Most of section 10 of this chapter on human rights has now been replaced by modernised guidance, in the 'Other cross-cutting information' section.
