This section contains new versions of the internal guidance that our staff follow when they are working on applications and other processes.

It has been produced by the UK Border Agency's modernising guidance programme, which was set up to:

reduce the amount of existing guidance by removing duplication;
link the guidance clearly to the Immigration Rules; and
rewrite guidance using language that is easy for our staff to understand.

During 2010, this modernised guidance will gradually replace existing guidance elsewhere on this site, particularly the immigration directorate instructions. As this happens, we will redirect you to this section. If the guidance you are looking for is not in this section yet, please look in the other sections.
