RFL11 - Biometric hits and refusals

This is internal guidance for use by entry clearance staff on the handling of refusals for visa applications made outside the United Kingdom (UK). It is a live document under constant review and is for information only.

RFL11.1 When can I refuse as a result of a biometric hit?

An entry clearance should not be refused solely on the grounds of an unfavourable biometric match, but it can shape the reasons for refusal. For example where an applicant has claimed on their visa application form never to have visited the UK, but biometric match results refute this.
