Ports outside the United Kindgom

This section is relevant to ports outside the United Kingdom and explains the impact that our e-Borders programme will have on them.

Carriers that operate to and from the United Kingdom are required to provide advance electronic information about passengers and crew under our e-Borders programme. Because ports provide the infrastructure in which carriers operate, we expect that some carriers will want to discuss (or have already discussed) aspects of the e-Borders programme with ports. We have begun the implementation phase of the programme with carriers.

There is specific information about the requirements for:

• aviation carriers;
• maritime carriers; and
• rail carriers.

E-Borders is the name of our programme of electronic border control. It collects and analyses passenger and crew information provided electronically by carriers (airlines, rail and shipping companies) before travel starts on all journeys to and from the UK.
