Step 2: The employer requires further verification of the individual's work status
The employer checking service offers employers the opportunity to check individuals' status to work in the UK.
If you are not satisfied with the identity and work status information provided by a job applicant, or if the applicant cannot produce the original documentation or the documentation provided requires a mandatory check, you may be able to use the employer checking service to check their status.
The employer checking service can:
- check the individual's right to work if they have an outstanding application or appeal with us; or
- validate an application registration card (ARC); or
- validate a certificate of application.
The service cannot confirm the individual's right to work in the UK if they do not meet the above criteria. In that case, you should ask the job applicant for further clarification. They should then give you further evidence of their identity and work status if the recruitment process is to continue - and they can contact the UK Border Agency if clarification of their status is required.
If you use the employer schecking service, it is your responsibility to inform the applicant that checks may be made to verify the information that they have provided.
To use the employer checking service, you must complete all the relevant sections of the checking service request form. You can download the form from the right side of this page.
You should send your employer checking service request form by email to Employerchecking@ukba.gsi.gov.uk. We will not accept forms sent by fax.
For more advice and information about the Immigration Rules when employing a foreign national, you can phone the employers' helpline on 0300 123 4699.
In step 3, the employer checking service undertakes a check.
