How do I sponsor a migrant worker?
Area 4: Migrant tracking and monitoring
This page explains how we rate the way you plan to use your human resource (HR) systems to track and monitor your sponsored migrants. We do this when you apply for a licence to sponsor migrants under the points-based system. We may also conduct checks after you have been granted a licence.
What you must do
You must report the following information or events to us, within 10 working days. If:
- any migrants who fail to enrol within the specified enrolment period, or fail to start work when they were supposed to;
- anyone who has had 10 days of consecutive unauthorised absence (or in the case of sponsored students miss 10 consecutive expected contacts);
- anyone you have dismissed, has ceased their studies or you cease to sponsor;
- anyone who has moved into another immigration category and is therefore no longer sponsored by you;
- anyone takes a period of unpaid leave, for example a sabbatical, or has deferred their studies and is therefore no longer allowed to be sponsored; and
- any student has changed their circumstances, for example their study location, their course, or the length of course, has changed.
You must fully comply with your sponsor duties listed in the sponsor guidance and report any changes within the specified timescales. It is therefore important that you monitor changes to the guidance.
We will use information about migrants' non-attendance, non-compliance or disappearance to decide on enforcement action against you.
