The type of citizenship you will acquire
If your application for registration is successful, the citizenship you acquire will depend on the basis of your application.
You will be registered as a British citizen unless one of the two exceptions below applies.
If your mother was a citizen of the United Kingdom and Colonies at the time of your birth, you will acquire the same citizenship she acquired under the British Nationality Act 1981.
If you were born in a British overseas territory, you will be registered as a British overseas territories citizen.
