Your case owner

This page explains what a case owner is and what he/she does.

Your case owner is the person who will deal with every aspect of your application for asylum, from beginning to end. You will be allocated to your case owner within a few days of making your application for asylum.

Your case owner is the single point of contact on the progress of your application, both for you and for anyone who represents you, such as a lawyer or other adviser.

If there are reasons why you would prefer to have a specifically male or female case owner, you should tell us as soon as possible, and we will try to meet your request where possible.

Your case owner is responsible for:

  • interviewing you;
  • making the decision on your application;
  • managing any support you are entitled to receive and staying in touch with you;
  • providing official documents;
  • representing the UK Border Agency if you make a legal appeal; and
  • arranging your:
    • integration into life in the United Kingdom, or
    • return to your country of origin, either voluntarily or by enforced removal.

Terms explained

  • Enforced removal

    A legal process we follow that enables us to force a person to leave the United Kingdom if he/she has no right to be here. It may involve arrest and detention in a secure centre until the person leaves the country.

  • Integrate

    Build a life in the United Kingdom and become fully established as a member of our society.
