Further submissions
This page describes the process for supplying further evidence to us if we have rejected an application for asylum and the individual's appeal rights have been exhausted. This is called 'making a further submission'.
On this page
If you want to make a further submission, you must do so in person. This requirement was introduced on 14 October 2009.
You may wish to use our further submissions form, which you can download from the right side of this page.
The process for making a further submission depends on where you live, when you initially applied for asylum and whether you have left the UK and returned since making your application for asylum.
Initial applications before 5 March 2007 (if you have not left the UK since claiming asylum)
If you initially applied for asylum before 5 March 2007, but you have left the UK either through your own choice, or as the conclusion of your case by the case resolution directorate, then you should follow the advice in initial applications before 5 March 2007, and those whose case has been concluded by case resolution directorate, who have left the UK and returned.
If you initially applied for asylum before 5 March 2007, you have not left the UK since applying for asylum, and your case is managed by our case assurance and audit unit, you will need to make your further submission by appointment and in person at Liverpool further submissions unit (FSU).
You cannot make a further submission at Liverpool FSU unless you have an appointment. To make an appointment, phone the FSU on 0151 213 2411. The phone line opens at 09:00, and closes when 30 appointments have been booked or at 16:00 (whichever is earlier).
When you book an appointment, we will send you written confirmation of the appointment.
When you visit the Liverpool FSU, you must consent to our Security screening and search process before entering the building.
The case resolution directorate has now completed a review of all cases. Those cases which have been reviewed but not fully concluded have now passed to the case assurance and audit unit (CAAU). CAAU will continue to manage all such cases through to full conclusion, as part of this process CAAU may contact you asking for further information about your case. If you make a further submission before CAAU contacts you, your case will not be processed any sooner. Liverpool FSU cannot give you an update on your case.
If you cannot travel to Liverpool FSU
You will not need to book an appointment if you are unable to travel to the FSU because you meet one of the following exceptional criteria:
- you have a disability or severe illness and are physically unable to travel;
- you are imprisoned or in detention and cannot make your submission in person; or
- you are an unaccompanied asylum-seeking child and cannot travel to the Liverpool FSU because it is too far away.
Instead, you should fax your further submission to our further submissions team in Liverpool on 0870 336 9261, with documentary evidence to show how you meet at least one of the exceptional criteria. If we decide that you do not meet any of the criteria, we will tell you that you must book an appointment at the FSU.
Cancelling an appointment
If you have booked an appointment at Liverpool FSU and you want to cancel it, you should phone our cancellation line on 0151 213 2413. Please leave your Home Office reference number and the time and date of your appointment. Any other information will not be considered.
Initial applications on or after 5 March 2007, and if your case has been concluded by the case resolution directorate, who have left the UK and returned
If you initially applied for asylum before 5 March 2007, but you have left the UK either through your own choice, or as the conclusion of your case by the case resolution directorate, then your case will now be managed by a regional case owner. For more information about the process for further submissions, select your region from the list below:

- North West of England
Initial applications on or after 5 March 2007
If you initially applied for asylum on or after 5 March 2007, your case will be managed by a regional case owner.
You will need to make your further submission in person at a specified reporting centre in your region. The process may be slightly different in different regions, but all cases will be treated equally across the country.
If you will have a reporting event at a reporting centre in the near future, you should make your further submission at that event.
If you report to a police station, or if you will not have a reporting event for some time, you should phone your case owner to find out what the submission process is in your region. (Police stations cannot deal with further submissions.) Your case owner will tell you how to book an appointment at a reporting centre to make your further submission.
