Working with other fraud prevention organisations

The UK Border Agency intends to share data on those here illegally with financial services organisations so that they may take this into account when considering applications from such individuals. This may deny the privileges of the UK to those here unlawfully who are not entitled to them. For example access to bank accounts, credit cards and mobile phones. Sharing such data will also enable us to better access fraud information and alerts posted by the financial services sector to support our own decision-making and enforcement operations.

To facilitate this sharing of data, the UK Border Agency application forms contain the following fair process notice:

'I understand that my details may in certain circumstances be passed to fraud prevention agencies to prevent and detect fraud and money laundering. I also understand that such agencies may provide the UK Border Agency with information about me. Further details explaining when information may be passed to or from fraud prevention agencies and how that information may be used can be obtained from the UK Border Agency website.'

This notice gives additional information to the above and provides further information about the processing of your personal information by the UK Border Agency and other organisations for the prevention and detection of fraud and money laundering. We may share data on those here illegally, so that organisations offering financial services or undertaking financial interactions with customers may take this into account when considering applications. Data sharing will also enable us to better access fraud information and alerts posted by other fraud prevention organisations to support our decision-making and operational activity. In particularif false or inaccurate information is provided and an offence is identified, details will be passed to fraud prevention agencies. Law enforcement agencies may access and use this information.

The UK Border Agency and other organisations may also access and use this information to prevent fraud and money laundering, for example, when:

  • checking details on applications for credit and credit related or other facilities.
  • managing credit and credit related accounts or facilities.
  • recovering debt.
  • checking details on proposals and claims for all types of insurance.
  • checking details of job applicants and employees.

The UK Border Agency and other organisations may access and use from other countries the information recorded by fraud prevention agencies. Please contact us at UKBApublicenquiries@ukba.gis.gov.uk if you want to receive details of the relevant fraud prevention agencies.
