Management information

Morton Hall operates by a service-level agreement between the UK Border Agency and HM Prison Service.

Bed spaces

392 single rooms for male detainees.

Facilities include

  • well-stocked library where detainees have access to a wide array of reading material in different languages as well as DVDs and CDs.

Directions

By road, from the A1 (north and south)

Exit the A1 at the junction signposted Newark Showground and Newark Northgate station.

Follow the signs for A46 Lincoln.

At the Halfway House roundabout (approximately 4 miles east of Newark) take the first left, signposted Swinderby and Morton Hall.

Follow the road for approximately 2 miles. Morton Hall is on your right.

By road, from the M1 (north and south)

Exit the M1 to Junction 21A and initially follow the signs for A46 Leicester and Newark, then follow the A46 signs for Lincoln.

At the Halfway House roundabout (approximately 4 miles east of Newark) take the first left, signposted Swinderby and Morton Hall.

Follow the road for approximately 2 miles. Morton Hall is on your right.

By rail

The nearest train station is Swinderby, approximately 1km from Morton Hall. Th rail services are not frequent.

East Coast Trains run a regular service to Newark Northgate from Kings Cross (75 minutes), Leeds (60 minutes), Newcastle (85 minutes) and Scotland. Trains between Newark and Lincoln run about twice per hour.

A taxi will be required from Newark Northgate or Lincoln station to Morton Hall, as there are no local bus services.

Social visits

Social and domestic visits take place every day between 13:45 and 16:15. On Thursday domestic visits run from 13:45 to 20:15. Visits can be booked up to 2 weeks in advance by contacting 0152 2666 819 between 9:30 and 12:30 every day. Visitors who do not pre-book will still be given access to visits if there is space, but cannot be guaranteed. A maximum of 3 adults are allowed to visit. There are no visits on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Social visitors are not permitted to bring a mobile phone into the centre under any circumstances. Visitors will be subject to search procedures.

All social and domestic visitors must bring with them photo identification, such as a passport or driving licence, in addition to a utility bill which clearly shows their full name and full UK address. Visitors cannot access Morton Hall without the required identification and utility bill.

Legal visits

Legal and official visits take place Monday to Friday between 09:00 and 11:30 and 13:45 and 17:00 (only two rooms are available for afternoon visits). Visits must be booked in advance on 01522 666 819 between the hours of 09:00 to 12.30 Monday to Friday.

Free parking is available.

The UK Border Agency operates a policy restricting the amount of personal property that detainees can have in the centre.
