Enrolling your biometric information - postal and online applications

This page explains how you can enrol your fingerprints and facial image (known as 'biometric information'), if you have applied by post to extend your stay or settle in the UK.

If you make your application to extend your stay in the UK by post or online, we will send you a biometric notification letter after we have received your application. You must enrol your biometrics at one of the participating post office branches.

Walk-in service for enrolment

You will be able to enrol your biometric information at a number of post offices nationwide. This is a walk-in service, with no need to book an appointment, but you can only use the service if you have been sent a letter inviting you to do so.

You must must take the whole biometric notification letter with you, including the back page which contains a barcode, your case reference number, full name and date of birth) when you go to the post office. If you do not do this, Post Office Ltd will not be able to proceed with your enrolment.

You will be charged an additional handling fee for this service, payable to the Post Office Ltd. You must pay the fee by cash or debit card when you attend Post Office Ltd to enrol your biometrics. Each dependant included on your application must also pay this fee when they enrol their biometric information. Do not send the biometric enrolment fee with your application fee.

Applicants on some immigration routes are exempt from paying an enrolment fee at the Post Office Ltd. If you are in one of these categories you will be informed of this when we send you a biometric notification letter.
