We manage border control for the United Kingdom, enforcing immigration and customs regulations. We also consider applications for permission to enter or stay in the United Kingdom, citizenship and asylum.
More migrants will need identity cards
Scheme will be extended to sponsored skilled workers in the new year
We have issued 100,000 identity cards for foreign nationals since they were introduced last November, and now we're accelerating the roll-out of the cards to new categories of migrant - starting with skilled workers who are here under the points-based system.
